03 Oct Tour through Doñana
Here is an example route we recently developed for a group of friends at the University of Huelva, students of Environment Studies and lovers of ornithology. It was a challenge for us, but one that resulted in a fantastic experience.
We prepared a route in which they discovered the real Doñana, the last refuge of biodiversity in Europe. A place of indescribable beauty and great cultural and natural value, which has been declared a World Heritage Site.
Throughout the trip, we visited a wide variety of ecosystems. For example we had the chance to discover the immense fields of rice irrigated by the Guadalquivir river; or to walk through the refreshing forest stream of La Rocina. We also enjoyed the beauty of the dunes present on the littoral, with peculiar wildlife adapted to them.
We had the great fortune to see flamingos and various species of birds of prey like the short-toed snake eagle and the black kite. Despite being in their home area, we didn’t get to see any lynxes, although we discovered some footprints of other mammals like foxes and badgers.
Doñana, Refuge of Biodiversity
Doñana can be so much more! We can walk through the sandy streets of the surprising El Rocío hamlet, where tradition, religion, and nature exist in harmony. You’ll enjoy the chapel, which is dedicated to the Virgin of Rocío, and the adjacent lake, where we can see horses and a multitude of birds resting and eating on the surface. The village is an excellent setting to taste excellent local products.
You will also be surprised by the incredible landscape of the Natural Monument of Acantilado de Asperillo. In there you’ll be able to take a refreshing dip in the Atlantic on those hot days…or any day of the year, if you’re daring enough!
On the other hand, we can adapt the route to focus on your interests. For example bird watching or taking photographs, among other possibilities. If you want to enjoy other activities, we can also suggest horseback riding along the beach; or taking a jeep along the pristine beach of Doñana, in addition to otherwise inaccessible areas.
Get inspired and don’t miss out on this unforgettable experience!
Experience on foot through Doñana
If you’re the type who loves to disconnect from the city and get outdoors to breathe fresh air, bird watch, walk a forest or mountain trail that ends in a pool of water where you can take a dip, then this is your section.
